Wellington to Amritsar Flights: Routes, Travel Times and Tips for Punjabi Families

Flights Wellington to Amritsar How Punjabi Families in the Capital Get Home to the Golden Temple

There is no non-stop, but there is a smart way to do it. Here is how Wellington families reach Amritsar with the fewest stops and the least stress.

Quick answer: how do I fly from Wellington to Amritsar?
There are no non-stop flights Wellington to Amritsar. Fly Wellington to Auckland first (about an hour with Air New Zealand or Jetstar), then take a one-stop flight from Auckland to Amritsar with Qatar Airways via Doha or Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur. Or fly Auckland to Delhi via Singapore and add a short domestic hop to Amritsar. Book every leg on one ticket, so a late flight is the airline’s problem, not yours. Call 09 973 1940 and we will put it together.

Why Wellington families need a plan, not just a search

Wellington Airport’s international flights go to Nadi, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. There is no long-haul flight from the capital to Asia or the Gulf, so every journey from Wellington to India starts with a domestic hop to Auckland.

That is why a quick online search for “Wellington to Amritsar” often gives messy results: a cheap domestic ticket on one airline, a long-haul fare on another, and no protection if the first flight runs late. For a family going home for a wedding or to pay respects at Sri Harmandir Sahib, that is a risk not worth taking.

The three routes that work from Wellington to Amritsar

All three begin with Wellington to Auckland. After that, you have a choice.

Route

Airlines

Good to know

Wellington – Auckland – Doha – Amritsar

Air New Zealand or Jetstar, then Qatar Airways

One stop after Auckland. The Auckland to Doha flight touches down in Australia on the way, but it is one flight number. Doha to Amritsar lands in the early hours, so arrange your pick-up.

Wellington – Auckland – Kuala Lumpur – Amritsar

Air New Zealand or Jetstar, then Malaysia Airlines

One stop after Auckland. Malaysia Airlines flies Auckland to Kuala Lumpur daily and Kuala Lumpur to Amritsar on a narrow-body jet. Good value and a simple airport.

Wellington – Auckland – Singapore – Delhi – Amritsar

Singapore Airlines or Air New Zealand to Singapore, Singapore Airlines to Delhi, then Air India or IndiGo

Two stops after Auckland, but the most daily choice. Delhi to Amritsar takes about an hour and a quarter in the air, with several flights a day.

Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost arm, flies Singapore to Amritsar, but it is usually a separate ticket and checked bags cost extra. We could not confirm a Singapore Airlines flight to Amritsar for 2026, so we have not built a route around it.

The Wellington to Auckland leg: get this right and the rest follows

Air New Zealand flies Wellington to Auckland 11 to 15 times a day, Jetstar adds two or three more, and the flight takes about 65 minutes. Frequency is not the problem. Timing is.

At Auckland, the domestic and international terminals are separate buildings, about a ten-minute walk apart. If your bags are not checked through, you collect them, walk across and check in again. With grandparents and small children, that takes longer than you think.

On one ticket, your bags are usually tagged through to Amritsar, the international baggage allowance applies to the domestic leg, and if the Wellington flight is late the airline must put you on the next connection at no cost.

6 tips for booking flights Wellington to Amritsar

1. Book every leg on one ticket

One booking, one baggage rule, one airline responsible if something goes wrong. Miss the international flight on separate tickets and you pay for a new fare. On one ticket, you do not.

2. Leave yourself a buffer in Auckland

Two to three hours in Auckland is comfortable. For an early international departure, take the last flight up from Wellington the night before and stay near the airport.

3. Fly midweek and land before the weekend

Tuesday and Wednesday departures are often the best value. Landing on a Thursday or Friday gives you the weekend with family before your first visit to the Golden Temple.

4. Compare landing in Amritsar with landing in Delhi

Delhi has far more flights from Asia and the Gulf, so fares into Delhi are often lower, and Air India and IndiGo fly on to Amritsar several times a day. For some families that works out cheaper even with the extra flight. Ask us to price both.

5. Check the baggage rule on the domestic leg

The cheapest Wellington to Auckland fares often do not include a checked bag. On one ticket the international allowance usually covers it. On separate tickets it does not. Sort this out before you pay.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified New Zealand students, teachers, lecturers and education staff can join Mann Travel Offer It takes $50 off selected return flights from New Zealand to India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other promotions.

What it costs and when to book

Our homepage does not list a Wellington or Amritsar fare today, so we will not invent one. As a reference for the Auckland-to-India part of the journey, Auckland to Delhi is from NZD $920 per person, checked 13 October 2026, prices change daily. The domestic leg and the Delhi to Amritsar hop, or the one-stop routing via Doha or Kuala Lumpur, sit on top of that. Call us for a live quote for your dates.

Timing matters. New Zealand’s Term 4 ends no later than Friday 18 December 2026 (many primary schools finish around 16 December) and Term 1 2027 starts in late January or early February. Those six weeks are the busiest of the year on every route to India. For summer holiday travel, book now. For wedding season and Vaisakhi in April, two to three months ahead is a good rule.

Travelling with family: what parents and grandparents ask us

  • The time difference. During New Zealand daylight time (October to April), New Zealand is 7.5 hours ahead of India. Flying west is the easier direction for jet lag.
  • Night arrivals. The Qatar Airways flight from Doha lands in Amritsar in the early hours. Arrange a pick-up before you leave Wellington.
  • Help at the airport. Wheelchair assistance, special meals and seats together can all be requested when we book.
  • Documents. New Zealand passport holders need an Indian e-Visa or an OCI card. Apply well before you fly, and check the New Zealand Government’s SafeTravel advice for India before you go.
