How to plan the trip, pack well and get the whole family there without the stress.
Quick answer
To fly to India for a wedding from New Zealand, start with the wedding dates, then book flights, check passports and apply for visas. Wedding season runs roughly from November to February, so seats fill early. Our homepage showed Auckland to Delhi from NZD 920 per person one way, checked 18 Oct 2026. Prices change daily. Ask us early about group seats and leave from work.
An Indian wedding is a big family moment. There may be several days of events, lots of relatives and plenty of photos. Getting there should be the easy part. This guide helps you plan it that way.
Why timing matters for wedding season
Indian wedding season runs roughly from November to February. That is also the time many New Zealand families travel for the summer break, which starts in mid-December. So more people want the same seats.
Exact wedding dates depend on the family and the calendar, so check with the hosts. Once you know the dates, plan backwards. You will need flights, visas, leave and outfits. Doing them in the right order saves stress.
Step | What to do | Suggested timing |
1 | Confirm wedding and event dates with the family | As soon as you can |
2 | Ask your employer about leave | Early. Do it before you book |
3 | Check passports for every traveller | Before booking |
4 | Book flights, especially for groups | Early, once dates are firm |
5 | Apply for visas if needed | Soon after booking |
6 | Plan outfits and gifts | Several weeks before you fly |
7 | Confirm bags, seats and documents | The week before |
This is a general guide, not a rule. Your own dates may need a different order.
Booking flights and group seats
Start with the route. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad are common choices from Auckland, and we can also arrange flights from Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. For the airport nearest the venue, ask us. We can look at connecting flights or trains as well.
Route | From (one way, economy, per person) | Checked |
Auckland to Delhi | NZD 920 | 18 Oct 2026 |
Auckland to Mumbai | NZD 920 | 18 Oct 2026 |
Auckland to Bengaluru | NZD 992 | 18 Oct 2026 |
Auckland to Ahmedabad | NZD 1,020 | 18 Oct 2026 |
These are “from” fares, one way, per person, checked 18 Oct 2026. Prices change daily. For help with Delhi in particular, see our Auckland to Delhi flights guide.
Group seats need a little more care. A large family often wants to sit together, and airlines hold a limited number of seats at each fare. If you leave it late, the group may be split. Our team helps with this every day.
Want to spread the cost for a bigger group? We offer flexible payment options such as PayLite and Afterpay. Ask us how it could work for your booking. If you are a student or teacher, Mann Travel Offer gives verified NZ students, teachers, lecturers and education staff $25 off selected return flights between NZ and India. It is valid for 30 days, can be renewed, and cannot be combined with other offers.
Leave from work, visas and documents
Talk to your employer early. A wedding trip is often 2 to 3 weeks once you include travel and recovery, though every family is different. Some people join mid-week events and fly home after the main day. Others stay on to visit relatives. Choose what fits your leave.
Most travellers need an Indian visa. Check the current rules on the official site, indianvisaonline.gov.in. Apply soon after you book, not at the last minute. OCI card holders and Indian passport holders have different requirements, so check which applies to each family member. Children need documents too.

Packing, outfits and gifts: family tips
Weddings come with a lot of luggage. Outfits, jewellery, gifts, sweets for the aunties. Plan early so the suitcase does not become the stress.
- Check baggage allowances. They differ by airline and fare. Confirm yours before you shop for gifts.
- Plan outfits by event. Make a short list of events and who is wearing what. Many families buy or hire outfits in India, which saves suitcase space.
- Keep valuables in your carry-on. Jewellery, medicines, documents and one spare outfit.
- Choose gifts that pack flat. Think Kiwi treats, small keepsakes or books. Ask the family what they would like.
- Bring comfortable shoes. Weddings mean long days on your feet.
- Allow a rest day. Jet lag and long celebrations do not mix well, especially for children and grandparents.
- Think about the weather. Check the forecast for the region before you pack.
- Take photocopies of your documents and keep them separate from the originals.
Travelling with young children? Pack snacks, familiar toys and a change of clothes for each child. Travelling with grandparents? Ask us about wheelchair help and meal needs when you book. These small notes make the whole trip easier.
