The Rann Utsav Tent City at Dhordo, in Gujarat's Kutch region, runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, according to the official Rann Utsav website. What is Rann Utsav?
Rann Utsav is a winter festival held on the edge of the Great Rann of Kutch, a huge salt desert in western Gujarat. After the monsoon water dries up, the ground turns into a flat, white landscape that seems to go on forever. People call it the White Rann.
Each season, a Tent City opens at Dhordo village. Guests stay in tents, enjoy Gujarati food, watch folk music and dance, and browse the famous Kutchi crafts: embroidery, block printing, pottery and more. The big moment for most visitors is sunset, and then moonrise, over the white salt.
For many Gujarati families in New Zealand, it is also a chance to show children a part of their heritage they have only heard about.
When to go: dates, full moons and NZ school holidays
The festival season is long, so you have options. Here is how the key dates line up for Kiwi travellers.

Other full moon periods in the season fall in late November and late February. Full moon dates are the busiest at the Tent City, so book those nights well ahead. Christmas and New Year are peak weeks for flights from New Zealand too.
Getting to Rann Utsav from New Zealand
There is no direct flight from New Zealand to Gujarat. Most trips follow the same simple pattern.
Fly New Zealand to Ahmedabad. From Auckland, one-stop routes via Singapore are a popular choice, and other airlines connect through Asian or Indian hubs. From Wellington, Christchurch or Queenstown, add a first leg to Auckland or Australia. Ahmedabad to Bhuj. Short domestic flights link Bhuj with Ahmedabad and Mumbai. You can also go by train or road, which takes most of a day.
