Heading home to the City of Pearls? Here is how Kiwi travellers get from Auckland to Hyderabad with one easy stop, and what to expect when you land.
Quick answer: how do flights from Auckland to Hyderabad work?
There are no non-stop flights from New Zealand to Hyderabad, so you fly with one stop. The most popular connections are through Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Dubai and Doha work too, with a longer trip. Via Singapore, it is about 11 hours to Changi, then around 4.5 hours to Hyderabad. With a sensible layover, plan on roughly 18 to 22 hours in total. For Diwali and the Kiwi summer holidays, book two to three months ahead.
Which airlines fly from Auckland to Hyderabad?
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is one of India’s best-connected airports. From Auckland, you reach it through a major hub in Asia or the Gulf. Here are the main one-stop routes our travellers use.
Connect via | Airlines | Total trip (approx.) | Good to know |
Singapore | Singapore Airlines, with Air New Zealand on the Auckland–Singapore leg | 18 to 21 hours | Usually the quickest option. Changi is easy to connect through, even with kids. |
Kuala Lumpur | Malaysia Airlines | 18 to 22 hours | Often good value. Check the layover length before you book. |
Dubai | Emirates | 23 to 27 hours | A long first leg from Auckland, then a short hop to Hyderabad. |
Doha | Qatar Airways | 23 to 27 hours | Similar to Dubai. Worth comparing in busy seasons when Asian routes fill up. |
Times are approximate and depend on your layover. Schedules change, so always check the exact flights when you book.
Flying from Christchurch? Singapore Airlines flies non-stop from Christchurch to Singapore. That means you can skip Auckland and connect straight on to Hyderabad.
Flying from Wellington or Queenstown? Most travellers take a domestic flight to Auckland first, then the international legs. Book it all on one ticket. Your bags are checked through, and if the first flight runs late, the airline looks after the connection.
Auckland to Hyderabad fares, and when to book
Hyderabad fares change daily and move a lot with the season, so our team quotes live prices on request. To give you a feel for the market, fares on our website from Auckland to Delhi and Mumbai were from NZD 920 per person, and to Bengaluru from NZD 992 per person (checked 26 September 2026, prices change daily). For Hyderabad, call or message us for a live quote.
The busiest times to fly are the Kiwi summer holidays in December and January, Diwali (Sunday 8 November 2026), and Sankranti in mid-January, a big family festival in Telangana. Seats on these dates go first, and the lower fare classes close early.
1. Book early for festival and holiday dates
Two to three months ahead is a good rule for peak dates. For the December school holidays, earlier is better.
2. Be flexible by a few days
Leaving midweek, or a few days before the rush, can make a real difference to the total fare for a family.
3. Compare hubs, not just airlines
Singapore might be full on your dates while Kuala Lumpur or Doha still has seats. Ask us to check all four.
4. Pick a layover that suits you
Two to four hours is comfortable. Too short and a delay can cost you the connection. Too long and parents and kids get tired.
5. Check your baggage before you buy
Taking gifts home? Allowances vary by airline and fare type. Our Diwali gifts and packing guide covers what to pack and what to leave behind.
6. Students and teachers: use MannPass
Verified students, teachers, lecturers and education staff in New Zealand can join MannPass for free. It takes $25 off selected return flights between New Zealand and India, including Hyderabad. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and can’t be combined with other offers.

Arriving at Hyderabad airport (RGIA)
RGIA is at Shamshabad, on the southern edge of the city. It is modern, clean and easy to find your way around. A few things to know before you land:
Fill in the e-Arrival Card. Since 1 April 2026, foreign nationals and OCI cardholders flying into India must complete a digital e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before they land. That includes New Zealand passport holders. The paper card is gone. Indian passport holders don’t need it.
Sort your visa or OCI early. New Zealand passport holders need an Indian visa or OCI card. Apply only through the official Indian visa website, which is also where the e-Arrival Card is filed.
Getting into the city. You can take a prepaid taxi, an app cab, or the air-conditioned Pushpak airport bus. The drive to central Hyderabad can take an hour or more in traffic.
Customs. Gifts are fine within India’s duty-free allowance. If you are carrying more, use the red channel and declare it.
Family pick-up. Share your flight number with whoever is collecting you, so they can track any delay.
Travelling to Hyderabad with family
Many of our travellers fly with parents, children and grandparents together. A few simple tips make the long trip easier:
Keep everyone on one booking. Seats stay together and changes are simpler.
Travelling with elderly parents? Ask us for wheelchair assistance and special meals when you book, not at the airport.
Flying with a baby? Request a bassinet seat early. There are only a few on each aircraft.
Choose a daytime connection if you can. Kids and older travellers cope better with a stopover that isn’t in the middle of the night.
Pack a small cabin bag for each person with medicines, a change of clothes and chargers, in case a checked bag is delayed.
